Jessica Stam was born in Kincardine, Ontario. She was raised on the family farm, the only girl along side 2 older and 4 younger brothers. One day, while at an amusement park with her friends, a talent scout in Canada noticed something special and unique about Stam’s “look” and approached her to ask if she had ever considered modeling. Stam decided to give it a try and was immediately signed by a local modeling agency.

It was however, Steven Meisel who gave Stam her big break by shooting two Italian Vogue covers for the illustrious September issue, and using her exclusively for the new face of Valentino’s Fall/Winter 2003 campaign. Since then, Stam has appeared in advertisements for Miu Miu, Cerruti, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Atsuro Tayama, H&M, Kenzo, and two seasons in a row for Prada. She can currently be seen starring in Fall 2005 ads for BCBG, H&M, Burberry, Bulgari, as well being the face of Anna Sui’s fragrance, “Dolly Girl”.

Top fashion magazines inculding Vogue (American & Italian) W, Harper’s Bazaar, The Face, Numero, W, V, and PoP all feature Stam on a regular basis. She has been featured on an astonishing total of six Italian Vogue covers, as well appearing on the covers of Japanese Vogue, Numero, Spur, i-D and 10.
